About me

I always find it tricky when people ask what kind of photography I do. I’ve never wanted to specialise and I love the variety of projects and challenges my work brings.

Over the last thirty years I’ve worked on food books for many well known chefs, from Mary Berry to Marcus Waring, food, lifestyle and travel stories for magazines, portraits and reportage for editorial, major charities, design and marketing agencies, and commercial clients large and small.

But while I’m happy shooting any subject, more than anything else I love photographing people. Wether its a ten minute studio portrait or a full day of reportage, there’s something uniquely fascinating about photographing people. I’ve been really lucky to work with some extraordinary individuals, and sometimes in extraordinary circumstances. Spending six hours in theatre documenting an awake brain surgery for Barts was particularly challenging, but one of the most interesting and rewarding jobs I’ve ever done.

I fell in love with photography when I was fifteen, but have always loved anything creative. When I left sixth form I went to art college imagining I’d be the next Lucien Freud. That didn’t work out, but I still love drawing and painting, and when I’m not taking photos I’ll often be found sitting in a cafe making quick candid sketches of the people around me, or exploring the Brecon Beacons and stunning Welsh coastline with sketchbook in hand.

Having spent most of my working life living in Hertfordshire, in 2023 I moved to Penarth in Wales where I now live with my wife Deb, step-son Stan, and daughter Molly, who’s just graduated from Uni. I have a son, Jules, who’s currently carving out a successful career as a chef in London.
